Summer Time Begins Now!

Unfortunately, I have not been able to keep up with my blogging this past month, due to nursing finals consuming virtually every minute of the day.  However, as of 2 p.m. today, my last final was complete and I now get to embark upon three months of freedom, also known as summer vacation.  Therefore, today’s blog will be an eclectic reproduction of classic film stars enjoying their fun in the sun.  I can upon the idea when I recalled a quote by F. Scott Fitzgerald. “And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.”

The infamous first blonde bombshell enjoying time by her pool.  “When you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas.”

Next we catch Jimmy Stewart relaxing in the sun.  It was amazing that a play that seems dated in this world… A man whose best friend is a six-foot white rabbit… But it caught on, especially with young people – they surprised me most of all.”

And now the Profane Angel Carole Lombard.  “I live by a man’s code, designed to fit a man’s world, yet at the same time I never forget that a woman’s first job is to choose the right shade of lipstick.”

And a moment that we all have experienced and only Carole can capture……

Now we move onto the always debonair Cary Grant.  “Ah, beware of snobbery; it is the unwelcome recognition of one’s own past failings.”

The ‘Love Goddess’ Rita Hayworth enjoying herself poolside.  “Increasingly, stars are recruited from the ranks of professional models, with the result that today’s starlets are better dressed and better groomed than ever before, though it is doubtful if they are better actresses.”

And who can forget about Tony Curtis?  “At 17, I dreamed of seeing the world. At 19, I had been around the world and back.”

‘Hollywood’s Mermaid,’ Esther Williams.  “It appeared as if I had invited the audience into the water with me, and it conveyed the sensation that being in there was absolutely delicious.”

Lucille Ball proving how glamorous she could truly be.  “I have an everyday religion that works for me. Love yourself first, and everything else falls into line.”

Gregory Peck taking in the gorgeous atmosphere as he memorizes his lines.  “Inside of all the makeup and the character and makeup, it’s you, and I think that’s what the audience is really interested in… you, how you’re going to cope with the situation, the obstacles, the troubles that the writer put in front of you.”

Femme Fatale Ava Gardner.  “Because I was promoted as a sort of a siren and played all those sexy broads, people made the mistake of thinking I was like that off the screen. They couldn’t have been more wrong.”

Robert Mitchum goofing around in the surf.  “There just isn’t any pleasing some people. The trick is to stop trying.”

The original ‘It’ girl Clara Bow.  “We had individuality. We did as we pleased. We stayed up late. We dressed the way we wanted. I used to whiz down Sunset Boulevard in my open Kissel, with several red Chow dogs to match my hair. Today, they`re sensible and end up with better health. But we had more fun.”

Debbie Reynolds.  “I gave it all that I had, and it’s gratifying that others seem to be receiving it so well.”

Burt Lancaster heating up the beaches in his own manner.  “I always try to improve, to find new ways of expressing myself, to keep looking for truth and originality.”

Not very bright. Makes me so angry! I’ve known an awful lot of very smart, very bright, very beautiful blonde women. And folks, I happen to be one of them.”

Elizabeth Taylor.  “I feel very adventurous. There are so many doors to be opened, and I’m not afraid to look behind them.”

Last but not least…Betty Grable. “I have got two reasons for success and I’m standing on both of them.”

And here’s a toast to summer……..
